Gale A. Buchanan

A Floridian, Gale A. Buchanan brought new administrative restructuring in the fiscal management of the College. Dr. Buchanan strengthened and united instruction, research and extension into a cohesive unit, expanding the College's outreach into the corporate and agribusiness worlds. Dr. Buchanan established the College's Advisory Council, a group of academic and industry leaders. He initiated the Congressional Ag Internship Program of the College, considered a national model. A new degree from the Tifton campus was offered in agriscience and environmental systems, the first UGA 4-year degree earned off the Athens campus. The College budget increased to more than $170 million in spite of severe budget cuts at the state level.
