With a $100,000 pledge to the new Poultry Science Building at the University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), AgGeorgia Farm Credit is the first six-figure donor to a campaign that will accelerate research, scholarship and applied solutions for the largest sector of Georgia’s No. 1 industry.

Samantha Wegener enrolled at the University of Georgia’s Tifton campus after earning her associate’s degree in biology from the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort, South Carolina. It was during her last semester in Beaufort that Wegener was introduced to the world of plant breeding.

Later this summer, Georgia residents will have the opportunity to help researchers find out what’s the buzz with insect pollinators in their state.
The black fly colony is based around aquatic rearing units converted from salt water aquariums. The units incorporate a “runway” that serves as an artificial stream and provides the surface where the black fly larvae attach, develop and pupate. CAES News

The University of Georgia Black Fly Research and Resource Center has been awarded a contract for a second year of funding with the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
The first phase of the EXCITE initiative is to create a communications campaign using testimonial videos. In the videos, provided in both Spanish and English, community members offer firsthand accounts of why they got the vaccine to encourage others to get vaccinated. CAES News

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted ordinary life for millions of people, and rural Georgia was hit especially hard. With hospitals overwhelmed with cases, residents of rural areas found it hard to access care or acquire materials such as face masks and disinfecting wipes.
