CAES researcher instrumental in ban of last-resort agricultural antibiotic in Lebanon 07/04/22 Jennifer L Reynolds
The overuse of the antibiotic colistin has contributed to the rise of antimicrobial resistance, “one of the top 10 global public health threats facing humanity,” according to the World Health Organization. To preserve colistin’s efficacy, the U.S. does not use it in food animals, and now, thanks to the efforts of University of Georgia Professor Issmat Kassem, Lebanon has followed suit, banning it for agricultural use.

Tim Miller understands the impact that education can have on a person’s life. He experienced it firsthand at the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, with professors who tailored their instruction so he could best learn. The incoming CAES Alumni Board president graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural mechanization technology in 1986.

Competitors at the Georgia 4-H State Horse Show reined in the awards at the Georgia National Fair Grounds in Perry. Held from June 7 to 11, the event welcomed 129 contestants who competed in five main disciplines including stock seat, ranch horse, hunt seat, saddle seat and contest events. The theme of the 2022 show was “Stirrup the Fun.”

Food tech entrepreneur to serve as Food Product Innovation and Commercialization Center director 06/23/22 Jordan Powers
Food technology entrepreneur James Gratzek will serve as the next director of the Food Product Innovation and Commercialization Center on the University of Georgia Griffin campus, according to the Department of Food Science and Technology at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
The staff at the University of Georgia's J. Phil Campbell Sr. Research and Education Center will host their annual corn boil and farm tour on June 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tours of the farm will be followed by a community corn boil. CAES News
